Something In Construction started in 2005.

A management stable and record label.

We deal in pop music.  Sometimes that means folk or disco, artrock, punk rock or symphonic pop, hip hop, rock’n’roll or electronica.  We are proud by our history and our catalogue,  cos we’ve only ever released bands that we love, which is probably why we have only just made it past 100 releases and why we are still here. Quality over quantity.

Currently we are working with MEMORY TAPES, AIR FRANCE, LONEY DEAR,  NIVA,  ANR, LEVERAGE MODELS,  PHILCO FICTION, A LULL and NZCA/Lines.

Previously we have released music by  THE CONCRETES, THE SILENT LEAGUE, LEISURE SOCIETY, 69CORP, CLASS ACTRESS, DELOREAN, EMMY THE GREAT, WASHED OUT, CHRISTIAN SILVA, THE GAY BLADES, AKIRA THE DON and OTHER PASSENGERS among others.

We basically like pop music, a tune you can whistle.  And cleverness, ideas and style. And strings, quite often.  If there is a common thread running through the catalogue; it’s…left-of-centre pop music.  There is probably no higher artistic calling.  We love both deep and shallow music, smart and dumb.

And if we can draw in shades of The Coen Brothers, Magritte, Bridget Riley, Coppola, HG Wells, Turner, Gilliam, IK Brunel, PK Dick, Jarmusch, Dante, Hanna Barbera, astronomy, gastronomy…then, all the better

Anyway, we are very pleased to meet you.  If you are reading this, may we say how nice your hair is looking and that you have lost weight and we never for a moment thought FOR A MINUTE that you did that thing that we heard you did.

Furthermore, if you like one of our bands, and are as smart as we think you are, then mebbe you’ll like more.
